Missions
"Link in de Kabel" is a youth organization that has had the mission since 2001 to make children and young people digitally skilled and resilient. In an increasingly digitized and mediatized society, it is essential that everyone is digitally included. According to our vision, digital inclusion is a powerful tool for social inclusion and a weapon in the fight against (opportunity) poverty.
Our objectives are focused on reducing 'second-degree digital inequalities' by strengthening digital skills and media literacy. We aim for children and young people to handle digital media skillfully, consciously, critically, and creatively. We focus on the driving force of digital media to socially empower, engage, and entertain children and young people. Additionally, we aim to reduce 'first-degree digital inequalities' by providing digital media (tablets, smartphones, drones, etc.) during our activities so that everyone we reach can effectively participate.
Our target audience primarily consists of children and young people in socially vulnerable situations: children and young people from disadvantaged families, young speakers of other languages, children and young people in residential settings, etc. However, we work inclusively and are also open to the increasing number of children and young people from more privileged environments who face difficulties in keeping up digitally. To deploy our expertise as widely as possible, we also organize training sessions for professionals from other organizations and for volunteers working with children and young people on digital skills and media literacy.
