Mothers for Peace does not accept that so many women around the world still do not have guaranteed rights. Mothers for Peace was born at the start of the 1991 war in the former Yugoslavia, where rape became a terrible weapon of war. From then on, violence against women played a leading role in the story of Mothers for Peace. Whether in Croatia, Bosnia, Somalia, Israel/Palestine or Afghanistan; we believe that violence on women cannot be allowed under any circumstances. To achieve improved living conditions, the development of health, education, agriculture and economy is imperative. Only when these basic needs are met will women stand up for their rights. Mothers for Peace has had development projects in Afghanistan in each of these four areas since 2002 and is trying to restart them by mouth under Taliban rule since August 2021.

Girls take classes in Afghanistan.

In August 2021, the Taliban retook power in Afghanistan. Under this regime, girls are banned from education. Once they reach the age of 12, they are kept indoors and employed in the household or married off. Mothers for Peace entered into an agreement with Royesh Private School in western Kabul to further educate girls informally. In October 2022, our support allowed 50 girls to start workshops again.
Officially, they take sewing classes and Islamic studies, but in reality they receive lessons in maths, physics, biology, chemistry, computer, English and Dari. We take care of school fees, materials and also offer food parcels for the girls' families to keep motivating them to come to school. This project has significantly reduced the students' frustration and gives them hope for the future. We want to expand this further in the future as demand is high.

With the support of Mothers for Peace, the school was able to select 50 girls. However, the demand is much higher and the school also has more capacity. We would like to expand this for next school year with additional classes. The cost for one pupil per school year is about 350 euros (registration fee, school materials and food parcels). By supporting our organisation, we can expand the classes and give more girls the chance to build their future.
