Modified by organisation

La Rue as a non-profit organization was founded in 1978 by a group of residents of Molenbeek, to offer Molenbeek residents and workers, faced with situations of marginalization and contempt, means, places and dynamics, learning about democracy , social and political expressions, to encourage them to “take charge of themselves”. She has chosen, through local work in the popular neighborhoods of Molenbeek, to inform, to promote reflection, participation and the personal involvement of residents in questions of development, town planning and to build with them, using existing resources, educational and schooling projects linked to daily life. An association for continuing education and integrated local development, it aims to promote responsibility and active participation in social, economic, cultural and political life in Old Molenbeek. It thus develops various actions and activities aimed at children, young people and adults, such as: homework school, creative workshop, literacy courses and cultural activities, various services, housing actions, living environment and social cohesion, support for citizen initiatives, support for the management of a collective vegetable garden, awareness of sustainable development, questions of the right to the city and a city in transition, etc.
