Missions
La Scientothèque, whose motto is "Equal opportunities through science", has as its main mission to help reduce social inequalities by developing and promoting activities based on experimentation for young people aged 4 to 20, using the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) approach. Our priority is to reach out to disadvantaged groups, particularly those at risk of dropping out of school and the digital divide.
Our homework schools (ESD) and extracurricular activities, which function as a hub of innovation, aim to give young people a new sense of meaning in their learning, and to develop 21st-century teaching resources and practices.
At the request of education professionals, we have adapted these resources and devised support systems for homework school teachers and organizers, particularly in terms of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & mathematics) activities and digital tools. Participating in numerous collaborative projects, we can count on a broad network of academic and field players to help us place our mission in a wider context.
Finally, since 2021, the Scientothèque has become ESERO Belgium Manager (European Space Education Resource Office, financed by ESA-BELSPO) for the French- and German-speaking communities alongside the KU Leuven, which ensures overall coordination, and for the Flemish communities, making us part of a wide network (universities, federal institutes, companies, colleges, schools...) working to disseminate and promote STEAM related to digital, space and sustainable development themes.
