Missions

Modified by organisation

Solid is a development organisation founded in 2000 with the aim of passing on business experience and know-how to underprivileged people worldwide. At Solid, we firmly believe that joining forces between socially responsible companies and non-profit organisations is an effective and sustainable way to combat poverty in the long term. And, more specifically, to improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups.

On the one hand, our faire businesses, in Peru, India and Kenya, create fair opportunities for local people by creating employment, markets and other forms of added value for society.

On the other hand, our non-profit organisation in Peru strengthens women, young people, families and their environment by guiding them, supporting them, teaching them skills,... which allows them to make more use of the economic opportunities mentioned above. A perfect combination!

        Counselling teenage mothers in Peru

In Ayacucho, Peru, 17 out of 100 teenage girls, aged between 15 and 19, are pregnant. The EMMA project improves the parenting skills and emotional well-being of these young mothers, with a team of midwives and social workers. The project aims to reconnect these girls with health services, education, legal protection and support programmes, to break the cycle of violence and poverty.

        Prevention of teenage pregnancies

Our prevention program in Ayacucho, Peru, has a clear and urgent goal: to put a stop to the increasing numbers of teenage pregnancies in the region. The program focuses on access to healthcare and contraception, by collaborating with health providers to tailor a differentiated approach for young people.
Many youngsters have some knowledge about contraception, but its use is limited due to machismo, prejudices, misbeliefs and discrimination when it comes to access. Therefore, the project works intensively with healthcare workers and young people to lower barriers and provide correct information. Additionally, the program works directly with a group of vulnerable students, in building their self-esteem and decision making, through art activities.
